School Clubs

Clubs at GHCIS are initiated, planned, and organized by students. During club activities, students engage in academic discussions, study literary and artistic works, learn life or language skills, develop interests and hobbies, or participate in meaningful social services. Currently, we have six categories of clubs: Academic, Language & Arts, Performance, Sport, Hobby, and Social Service.

Some academic clubs focus on subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, and history. Some have excelled in competitions and have won numerous awards, such as the Guanghua Debate Team and the Business Club. Others, on the other hand, focus on language and arts, including literature, calligraphy, Latin, and Spanish.

Some clubs shine on the stage, such as the performance clubs including the Chinese Dance Club, Chinese Musical Instrument Club, Chamber Music Club, GHCIS Choir, Drama Team, and independent bands. Others are energetic on the sports fields, including ball sports clubs, the Triathlon Club, and the Horse-riding Club.

Some clubs aim to showcase students' wide range of interests, such as Bakery of GHCIS, Guang Ying Media Club, Movies Club, and Rubik’s Club, to name a few. Meanwhile, some are committed to the benefits of others - the social service clubs such as the Cat Club and various volunteer clubs.

Over 100 clubs in GHCIS have brought students together and greatly enriched their school life.

  • Business Club

The Business Club is dedicated to spreading fundamental business knowledge among high school students, fostering business interests, and discovering business talents. As one of the earliest clubs at GHCIS, the Business Club has always been a pioneer and active participant in business competitions. It has organized numerous high-quality lectures and has received wide support and recognition from both within and outside the school.

  • Biology Club

The charm of Biology lies in uncovering the mysteries of life through detailed examination. It explores the microscopic world that is unimaginable to the naked eye and the genes that determine the characteristics and energy of every living organism. After a day of study, club members come to the biology lab to conduct interesting experiments, develop interests, and feel the excitement of biology. Here, students use thermostat incubators to study microorganisms, learn fascinating stories about ancient life and evolution, and explore the structures within animal bodies.

  • GH Mathematics Club

Established in 2018, the GH Mathematics Club (GHMC) is one of the most popular academic clubs on campus. As a haven for math enthusiasts, it encourages free discussion and sharing of mathematical knowledge and unique problem-solving methods. It is also open to auditors.

  • Psychology club

The Psychology Club hosts public lectures each semester to introduce basic psychological knowledge, raise awareness, and break stereotypes about the field. Their activities also include screening documentaries by renowned psychologists, such as "Discovering Psychology," which covers interdisciplinary knowledge of biology, sociology, and psychology. These documentaries provide practical insights beyond textbooks and are easier to understand compared to traditional readings.

  • Guang Ying Media Club

Photography is a way to express life, enjoy life, and appreciate beauty. In our club, we share unique emotions and love for life with others through photography - our main activity. When the weather is pleasant, members gather for group photography sessions around the campus. Then, we share and discuss our works and offer each other constructive feedback. We capture the essence of youth with our videos and photos, believing that in the future, we will look back at our albums filled with cherished memories of the world.

  • Ceramic Club

The Ceramics Club is an art club where students learn the craft of hand-molding ceramics. During club activities, students develop hands-on skills and fully unleash their artistic creativity by learning the complete process of hand-molding, underglaze painting, glazing, and firing. Additionally, due to the unpredictability of ceramics production, they learn to accept imperfect results and patiently enjoy the process along the way. In this club, students can create unique items to use in daily lives, such as cups, bowls, vases, and small ornaments.

  • Ink Club

Ink Club usually organizes calligraphy and painting activities, which might seem overly artistic at first glance; however, our activities truly reveal the pleasure of calligraphy. Our members are extremely talented, each with their unique writing style—some bold and powerful, others delicate and graceful. Those who paint traditional Chinese paintings vividly bring ancient figures to life with just a few strokes. In the past two years, we have provided a wide range of calligraphy and traditional painting works for the GHCIS Spring Festival couplets, which have been highly praised by our school. These creative projects have given all members a sense of deep involvement and accomplishment.

  • Dance Clubs

We have multiple dance clubs catering to different dance styles, including the School Dance Club, Chinese Dance Club, Latin Dance Club, K-pop Dance Club, Street Dance Club, Ballet Club, and ACGN Dancing Club. With the guidance of club mentors, students break down dance moves each week and strive for continuous improvement. Various school-wide events and competitions, both on and off-campus, feature the dynamic, graceful, carefree, and creative dance performances of the dance club members.

  • Musical Theater / Drama Teams

Every semester, our Musical Theater and Drama Teams prepare a theatrical audiovisual feast for teachers and students. The mentors and club members discuss scripts weekly, conduct segment rehearsals, and practice repeatedly. Popular shows performed by the Musical Theater and Drama Teams include Urinetown, Legally Blonde, Into the Woods, Young Frankenstein, New Romeo and Juliet, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Little Shop of Horrors, Blood Wedding, and Romeo, You Idiot!

  • GHCIS Choir

The GHCIS Choir was established in 2018 and has been dedicated to promoting choral culture on campus for the past two years. They have actively participated in various school performances and events. In the choir, members are exposed to and learn a large number of excellent choral works, improving their singing and performance skills. At the same time, their experience with the choir has added spice to their otherwise monotonous extracurricular life. The choir has also grown from an initial dozen members to a large group of nearly 40 people.

  • Chinese Musical Instrument Club

In our shows, each pluck of lute strings strikes the soul, touching our hearts as if voicing our inner spirit, while the flute melody wafts in the wind. Interwoven, the tunes and notes of the Chinese musical instrument ensemble soar into the sky. The Chinese Musical Instrument Club, themed around music and featuring traditional Chinese songs, carries our ancient and profound cultural heritage. Here, we await kindred spirits.

  • Chemlab Volunteer (Tonghe)

The Chemlab Volunteer group at Tonghe conducts activities such as cleaning laboratory apparatus, arranging lab equipment, preparing reagents, and performing fun experiments. Students always complete the volunteer tasks efficiently assigned by teachers. The most popular activities are engaging chemistry experiments, such as the eye-catching "Elephant Toothpaste" and "Pharaoh's Snake," weather prediction bottles, and crystal formations of copper sulfate and chrome salts. Before each experiment, students research the theoretical background, familiarize themselves with the procedures, and identify potential risks. Through these activities, students gain practical lab experience beyond textbooks, develop teamwork skills, and form lasting friendships.

  • GHCIS Cat Club

The GHCIS Cat Club is dedicated to animal protection and aims to provide better living conditions for the campus cats. Our activities include arranging for the spaying/neutering of cats, medical treatment for sick cats, long-term food supply, and promoting cat adoption. Over the past year, we raised over 20,000 RMB through crowdfunding and school support, which enabled us to treat the medical problems of nine cats and neuter two. Additionally, we produce themed creative products, participate in school events, and host cat photography contests to attract more people to support and help the campus cats.

  • Horse-Riding Club

The Horse-Riding Club meets at an equestrian club in the city, where members learn basic techniques such as trotting, sitting the trot, and steering a horse, as well as more advanced skills like ground pole exercises, cantering, and jumping. We also gain a deeper understanding of horse behavior and develop a bond with the horses. Each session is filled with valuable experiences which allow students to fully enjoy and develop a love for this sport.
